One day, they found a new game to play. Climb up……jump down……climb up again…..jump down
South Philadelphia.

My Nana Annette Saltzman was born in 1906, and told me her family was lucky and didn’t lose anyone to the flu. If I recall, she had told me that her father, Morris, owned a bakery around 5th and Washington. She was a little girl in South Philly, and she and her friends used to play games on their street and sidewalk. One day, they found a new game to play. Climb up……jump down……climb up again…..jump down. It was fun! It wasn’t until much later that she realized the game they were playing was climbing up on the large supply of extra coffins that had been delivered to the local funeral home, due to the increase of deaths, and were stacked up outside on their sidewalk!
