Glen Rayne

Military Training Camp Death.

Maryland.

My Great Uncle, Glen Rayne, died of Influenza in 1918.  In May of that year he enlisted in the Army and was sent to Camp Meade, MD for training.

Glen Rayne was born in Salisbury, Maryland and is buried in Virginia.  His parents were John Matthias Rayne and Mary Ellen (Timmons) Rayne.  He worked as a railroad brakeman and was living in Delmar, Delaware at the time of his enlistment. His short-lived marriage was to Edith Keyes of Virginia.

He was described as “short, with grey eyes, light brown hair and a medium build”.   Unfortunately I do not have a picture to share with you. On the first of October, a message was sent home that he was dead.  He was 25 years old and had been married only four weeks.  In Delmar DE, there is an American Legion Post named for him.
